Updating Treo software using Ubuntu?

Greetings,

I've got a Treo 600 and I run Ubuntu 5.10 'Breezy Badger' Linux as my primary OS on my PC. I can get the Treo to sync up to the PC just fine, but what I'm not clear about is how to install new software on the Treo (not just apps, but also updates to the PalmOS firmware itself). If there's an option to do so in the 'Palm OS Devices' programme, I haven't found it yet.

Am I going to have to run Palm Desktop through Wine or a Win-emulator? Or is there a Linux-based solution? Have I missed something?
